Mopane Worm Stew

  1. Rehydrate the dried Mopane worms by soaking them in hot water for about 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they start to break down.
  5. Add the paprika and cumin, and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  6. Add the rehydrated Mopane worms, salt, pepper, and water. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the Mopane worms are tender.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or pap (cornmeal porridge).
